The R1

Is the premiere XC race disc brake on the market today. The lightest disc brake ever made for a bicycle combines its astonishingly low weight with top-level power and performance. The brake comes stock at 279g, but can be dropped all the way down to 263g with a little bit of tuning. The forged MC body and caliper, provide increased modulation, braking power and durability. Even at this low weight, the R1 generates more than enough power for All Mountain or Enduro use. The R1 uses a patented caliper piston system that increases fluid capacity in the caliper further increasing performance under heavy use.

Introducing the R1

• In 2008 Formula’s The One system redefining riders thinking about power andweight in a DH brake, this year Formula introduce the new R1 (Radial 1) for XCand trail riders bringing Formula’s incredible power and control to the lightestbrake system available today.

• Developed on the technology introduced by The One, the R1 combines acompact and incredibly lightweight monoblock caliper running 22mm piston with a ground breaking new ultra-lightweight radial master cylinder with concealed expansion reservoir, lightweight clamp and lightweight lever.

• With standard version hardware kit, system weights are from an unbelievable 270g but with ultralight alu-center rotor kit and all possible upgrades system weights as low as 258g are possible.

• R1 is the lightest brake available today but as you would expect from Formula the weight is not what astonishes. With power beyond that of Oro and not far short of The One, the radial master cylinder brings a new level of sensitivity and control to inspire confidence in XC racers and serious trail junkies.
